C U Soon is a fast-paced movie. The story is conveyed almost entirely on phone or computer screens. Though this screen-based format of storytelling is an experimental one, the excellent screenplay, direction and editing make the movie interesting. Intense emotions are conveyed without turning the movie into a melodrama.
The direction by Mahesh Narayanan deserves a special mention. Being a screen-based narrative, the flow of the movie could have been swayed easily by concentrating on the technical aspects. Fortunately, the filmmaker has kept the focus on the story and other details minimal.
The main actors in the film, Fahadh Faasil, Roshan Mathew and Darshana Rajendran, deliver phenomenal performances. Fahadh as the angry, impatient young man is brilliant. As usual, his eyes do the talking and he emotes with ease even in the scenes without dialogues.
Roshan Mathew is extremely credible as the man who wears his heart on his sleeve and gets into trouble for it. He depicts Jimmy’s love, panic and despair brilliantly. His screen presence and charm shine through even when his face is only partly visible on one part of the main screen.
Darshana Rajendran as Anu has done a great job too. She depicts her character’s coyness and sincerity perfectly. The supporting cast is wisely chosen and their performances enhance the quality of the film.
C U Soon is an exciting and interesting thriller. It is fast-paced, gripping and very well executed. It will have you on the edge of your seat and keep you guessing till the very end. The final reveal will surely leave you satisfied with the whole viewing experience. This is definitely a must-watch.
